The Monster In Her Eye
“Ha ha…” “Ha ha…” “Ha ha”, people from all the two directions of the hallway laughed at Rose who was being bullied by Ruby Monet. Rose stood still while Ruby poured more water down her head. Rose’s hands were fisted to her side. How much she wished she could defend herself but she couldn’t. She was helpless.
Ruby Monet, the one who bullies her, was from a wealthy family. If Rose raised her voice against Ruby, she knew she could be in trouble and her only parent, her mom, could not be able to help her because she is not as rich as Ruby’s parents.

“That’s what you get for being a loser. I mean, look at you. Big sweat shirt, a jeans and plain white sneakers? Seriously? Do you have no fashion sense?” inquired Ruby. Rose was hurt. She and her mom could barely manage food at home and here Ruby was talking about her clothes. Rose knew she couldn’t dress as beautiful as Ruby but what she wore was the best she could manage. She worked three jobs. One at a hotel, another at a gas station and another one at a café. All the money she earned went into foods and bills of home.
Rose still stood still. She continued to bear all the insults that were thrown at her.
Now, there was a huge crowd formed around Rose. Some watched her in mock, some in pity. Rose gave up hope that someone will help her. It is because if someone did help her, that person would also be bullied by Ruby and her group. They were all monsters in her eyes.

Brett Parker, Ruby’s friend, shouted in front of everyone “No wonder your father left you. No one would want you. Look at yourself. I bet you also cut yourself, don’t you? You are so disgusting. It won’t be long before your mother leaves you too. I will bet 100 dollars on that.” The crowd whispered lots of yeah and yeses. Words said by Brett broke her heart because she knew it was true. Her father left her when her mother was pregnant with her.
Rose ran away from Ruby and her group, away from the crowd. Ruby’s best friend and partner in crime, Sofia Ranger, shouted “Yeah, loser. Run away, like you always do.” The crowd broke into laughter as Rose ran away as fast as she could into the girl’s bathroom.
As soon as she reached into the bathroom, she broke down. She cried, she shouted. She banged her head onto the wall until blood trickled down her face. She could hear her heart beating fast. Her whole body felt numb. Thoughts like “Why me?” “Am I not enough?” “Why did you leave us father?” ran through her mind. The last one was “It’s over.” She ran out of the bathroom, left school not caring about the blood on her face. Students glanced her way. Some gasped seeing blood on her face. Some snickered. She ran out of the school, towards the bridge that overlooked a big river with current so high it would wash away anything it touched without a second thought.
She took a book and a pen from her bag. She was void of any emotion at that time. She didn’t feel anything. Neither did she feel pain nor remorse of leaving her mother alone after what she was going to do. After she finished writing, she climbed on the bridge railing. She looked up at the sky, smiled faintly and whispered “I love you mother.” Rose heard a lot of “No, get down the railing” and “Don’t do it” behind her but it was all in vain. The next moment, screams were heard, not from her but around her. Rose felt the coldness of river hitting her. Her head felt like it was hit by a truck. Even when she was being swept away by the powerful current, she smiled. At last, she felt at ease.
After one hour police gathered around the railing Rose jumped from. They questioned the witnesses. They all said one thing “She looked so broken yet so happy when she jumped.” Rose’s mother was staring at the railing Rose jumped from. She was numb yet she felt the hotness of tears as it rolled down her cheeks. Her daughter was gone. In her hand was the letter Rose wrote before she jumped.
Rose’s mother opened the letter, read it. Now, her body was trembling terribly after reading the letter. She sobbed wildly. She shouted “Why?” over and over again. She asked all sort of questions directed towards Rose but Rose was no longer there to answer her questions.
Next day, polices and detectives were at Rose’s school. All the students were gathered at the multipurpose hall. Chief detective stepped forward and boomed “I feel ashamed to see the youths of our country stooping so low that it caused the death of Mrs.Rose Smith. I came to know from the principal of your school that Rose was brilliant student until two years ago. I found out from some students that she was being bullied for two years by a certain rich group of this school. Now, Mrs.Ruby Monet, Mrs.Sofia Granger, Mr.Brett Parker. Can you come forward?” All three of them stood at the front of the student body. Their faces were flushed, they were scared and ashamed.
“Mrs.Monet, I know your father. He is a good man. I wonder how he will feel when he knows her daughter was a major bully at school?” with that Ruby broke down. She cried.

“Mrs.Ranger, your father is a respected citizen of this locality. I came to know you are a good person too, so why did you do all this? Is it because you wanted power? Fame? Are you satisfied now? She’s dead. The victim of your hunger for power and fame is dead” with that being said by the chief detective, Sofia cried too.
“Now, Mr.Brett Parker or should I say rapist?” all the students and the teachers gasped. Even Ruby and Sofia gasped. They didn’t know their best friend, Brett, was a rapist. “You raped Mrs.Rose Smith. Not once or twice or thrice but 5 times. She got pregnant with your child for three times. You abused her. She had miscarriage two time. When she jumped, not only did she loose her life but also the baby’s. You raped and abused her!” the chief detective now shouted. He was trying his hardest not to beat Brett in front of everyone. Brett did the worse to Rose. He broke her more. Everyone was now shocked and ashamed. Some girls and female teachers were now crying.

“I, hereby, declare that all three of you, will face the consequences” the chief detective said sternly. “One more thing. All of you students who watched her get bullied were monster in her eyes. Mrs.Ruby Monet, Mrs.Sofia Ranger and Mr.Brett Parker. You were the worst monster in her eyes. And Brett, you were the most worst and the most vicious monster.”
The police dragged away Ruby and Sofia, who were shocked by the revelation. Brett was crying hysterically shouting “I don’t want to go to jail!”

Ruby and Sofia were charged with four years of prison for bullying, cyber bullying, verbal abuse and indirect murder of Rose. Whereas, Brett was charged with life sentence for bullying, cyber bullying, verbal abuse, multiple rape, indirect murder of Rose and two unborn child.
Mr. and Mrs. Monet, Ruby’s parents were shocked. They couldn’t believe Ruby did all those. So were Mr. and Mrs. Ranger. They couldn’t believe their daughter, who was an angel in their eyes, did all those. Whereas for Brett’s Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parker, disowned Brett. They were no longer his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Monet did their best to compensate for what their daughter did. Rose’s body was never found yet they conducted a grand funeral for Rose. They gave Rose’s mother so much money to last for life. Rose’s mother formed a new organization with all that money to defend and help those who were bullied.

Rose watched from the heaven above as her mother was working hard for those who were bullied like her. She smiled and whispered “I love you mother.”
